Windows 7 has issues with usb 3.0, my guess is you may be plugged into it. Make sure you're plugged into the 2.0(non blue) ports.

What's your PC specs? Run "msconfig" to see what programs/processes are running

Have you installed any new hardware? new software, like anti-viruses? Look in device manager for any yellow exclamation points, look at the event viewer and see if theres any errors. Try disabling a webcam if you have one. does the bsod show a number?

are these files from another hard drive that are read only? Does this happen to new files you try and save? I gather from your original statement that you did right click and try to change it in properties with no luck?
