    First you will want to check the other components on the computer. RAM Power connections and anything else. Did you hear any beeps that the computer made? Those beeps tell you what is wrong with the computer, and you can refer to them on the manual of the motherboard.

    I believe it depends on the motherboard. If you have a intel motherboard, you can only get a Intel processor. If you have a AMD motherboard then you can only get a AMD processor. You also have to make sure the motherboard will support the socket of the processor.
