I need reliability more than anything. nothing can afford to fail and take the rest of the chain of command with it. I would rather have lower failure rate than higher spec at the same price point for just about every part there is! Hard drives are at the top of this list!
I use a Sennheiser HD598 with a Modmic 4 and I love it, friends say the mic sounds good and the headphones beat the hell out of any standard headset. I use the 3.5mm ports and it works just fine.
I have one of these and it is convenient, but it whines. You can hear a high-pitched buzzing noise reminiscent of 50 cent phone chargers from Hong Kong when you plug it in, but otherwise I'm given no reason to believe it's dangerous.
As far as I know, there's no reason you should need any specific hard drive. any 2.5" HDD should do the trick unless you have some pretty specialized hardware. At a glance, this drive doesn't seem to be.
