[SOLVED] A recommendation on a used VGA for my rather old PC

Will do. I forgot to mention I'm Brazilian, and Tom's Hardware forums are for me the reference, but when you say "£150", I have to think proportionally and factor the extra taxes my country imposes: for instance, last time I checked, 1GBP = 7.11BRL. So what if this is a signal that I should...

[SOLVED] A recommendation on a used VGA for my rather old PC

Thanks everyone, that should about do it. Which means: I currently can't upgrade my VGA. Just to be clear, are you saying I should currently stay away from used video cards, since the now-used ones are either power-hungry or had been worn by stress computation (mining), like @digitalgriffin said?

[SOLVED] A recommendation on a used VGA for my rather old PC

Hi! I want to replace my graphics card. I have a PC built in 2012, and I obviously cannot optimally play my games (Starcraft 2, CS:GO and even MTGA), nor can I play some of the more recent titles at all. However, I'm short on cash right now, and some said a VGA upgrade would bring the most...

No video, no POST, no BOOT on new PC, possible mobo-cpu incompatibility

Finally we got this. It was indeed the fact that the motherboard required BIOS update. I was lucky to have a competent and good-willing friend around. He killed it. Thanks guys!

No video, no POST, no BOOT on new PC, possible mobo-cpu incompatibility

My friend took the nearly-assembled PC to a techie to have thee BIOS updated using an older Ryzen CPU. I'll update you guys shortly. There's been an unpleasant development: I took more than 7 days to pinpoint the problem, and now the online store which sold us the parts don't want them back...

No video, no POST, no BOOT on new PC, possible mobo-cpu incompatibility

Guys, chill! :D Thanks for your trouble clashing for the proper solution, but the thing is, the PC is not mine, it's for a friend's young son which is dismayed already, not to mention that my friend himself is now unwilling to pay me in full (and I can't blame him). Actually I have a stressing...

No video, no POST, no BOOT on new PC, possible mobo-cpu incompatibility

Hi, I live in Brazil and assisted my young friend on acquiring a new PC. After researching a bit, some people pointed to me that the AMD Ryzen CPUs are currently competitive against Intel. So we went for one. They also remarked that, given the chosen monitor, an AMD/ATI graphics card could...

New MoBo to replace the former, with LGA1155 socket, because of BSODs

Ok thanks John. I guess I'll have to wait for it to happen again. Thanks, I learned a lot with this topic!

New MoBo to replace the former, with LGA1155 socket, because of BSODs

I'm almost there: I changed the option in order to generate a kernel memory dump instead of an automatic or small dump. However, I can't find the native utility to read it. Articles found Googlewise suggest there is some dumpchk.exe, but there is no such program here. So how to 'officially' view...

New MoBo to replace the former, with LGA1155 socket, because of BSODs

Didn't find anything but some Steam crash files. crash_csgo.exe_20171218232713_2.dmp Didn't run CCleaner since the occurrence. Not my case, I've seen those files before. I also viewed them with BlueScreenView. Now I get the point of it. I'll try. ...and I succeeded in inducing the...

New MoBo to replace the former, with LGA1155 socket, because of BSODs

Sorry if I'm missing something, but I don't understand. Actually, I understand the part in which we can examine the minidump files to check what corrupt Windows files were to blame, or which hardware piece failed. But it's been four days since the last occurrence now. The minidump files for some...

New MoBo to replace the former, with LGA1155 socket, because of BSODs

Disabled the audio device which was failing to start. Still, can't know how that will help: if I no longer get BSODs, I still won't be able to tell if it was about this particular device. Are you talking about this...

New MoBo to replace the former, with LGA1155 socket, because of BSODs

Ok you convinced me not to go for a new motherboard. So do you have any clues regarding the blue screen errors? Or should I open another thread for that?

New MoBo to replace the former, with LGA1155 socket, because of BSODs

Apparently not here in Brazil. Today very few people use dedicated sound cards, so the market has realised it's now a "niche" product, hence, too expensive for its secondary role. :(
