Build Advice First time upgrading in quite a few years, best upgrade path to take ?

5070 and 12gb ram would be iffy. Suggest 16 gb of vram, and a 5070ti or 9070xt to game in 4k. The asrock 9070xt taichi, being oc, gets you performance equivalent to a non oc 5070 ti... at 200 to 300 GBP less.

You don't add 8gb. You replace the existing 8 by a 16 gb kit. Potential stability or induced lag otherwise. Always buy a complete ram kit and replace it by another.

They don't really try to help. In-laws have ipads and had a fault twice. Twice apple said "gotta buy a new one, can't do a thing, you lost your data". £1600 total, that would have cost. Reminded my other half of Apple's malpractices, we went to a small phone repair shop, paid £40 the first time...

Agreed with Why_Me, you'd be a bit more future proof if you have the budget for it. It is, after all, the best gaming CPU on the market at the moment. The 7800X3D is a close 3rd.

For the Taichi, stock, we're counting 340W for a 7% increase over stock in terms of performance. I'm going to downclock it 5% below stock, then if I can, undervolt it. The combination of the overengineered shroud and the lower frequencies/power draw should allow me to get to a fairly low amount...

G.Skill, duly noted. 6000-6400MT/s still are the sweet spot for AM5, then, even with EXPO, can't go beyond that? Good to know, thanks.

Build Advice First new build in years

Hi there, Thanks for your answer. I'm not building for 10 years, I'm replacing an 11 year old PC (in which I upgraded the GPU, RAM, SSD and cooling capability over the years). Since I did that for my 2 previous rigs, I'd like my Mobo to hold as long as possible. Hence the X870 chipset, more...

Build Advice My first PC build

CL or CAS latency: CAS (Column Address Strobe or Signal) latency is how many “clock cycles” it takes for the module to access a specific set of data in one of its columns to make it available to the output. As rule of thumb, the faster your RAM is, the higher the CL (there are exceptions...

Build Advice My first PC build

Hi there, I see we're going for a similar build (9800X3D/9070XT). Might I suggest RAM with lower CL? CL30 is better than CL36 and gets you slightly better performance. As for the monitor: What types of games are you looking to play? In 1440p ultra, a 9070XT will get you 80 FPS (ray tracing) to...

Build Advice First new build in years

Hi all, I've been looking at a decent build to replace an ageing i7 4770s near silent configuration for gaming in 1440p. I have a good idea as to what I want in terms of components, but if you have any returns on the use of some of them in terms of noise (or suitability), much appreciated...
