Anyone have any information on those Laptop power supply size adapters? Are they reliable? Is there a certain kind that works better than the rest? I need the intermediate size which is 5mm. I have a box of the large 6-7mm and small 3-4mm. Seems the medium size is hard to come by, so I'll just...

I might just try windows 7 x86 one more time if i can dig up some more memory for this laptop, it only has one slot. Now with the hard drive only being about 55 GB, would it be easier to reinstall windows XP and partition the drive, or install the Ubuntu distro first and partition the drive. So...

Also if installing Windows 7 is not an option. I'm also trying to duel boot XP and a Linux distro. I have XP installed but can't partition the hard drive at all. Usually I would be able to install the Linux Ubuntu distro alongside the Windows operating system but I don't have the option to.

It's an old Gateway 3522GZ. I get an error message while installing windows 7. I also have a hard time installing Linux, because it has a Centrino M CPU. It has 734 RAM and a 55 GB hard drive. The error message is the attached pic. https://imgur.com/a/Pr3DX

Here's what I will do. Put the jumper on both the disc drive and HD to master. In BIOs I guess I turn on primary and secondary master, or just primary master? Also check to see If it's reading the CD-ROM, and if it's showing installed. If that doesn't work, I will swap out the cable to the disc...

I removed the Samsung drive. it's CS, slave, then master. I do have a few extra drives laying around, not sure if they work.

After moving the jumper on the CD-ROM to the center, BIOS still doesn't read the drive. I still get that error on start up drive 0 not found press 1 to continue. It also started up slower this time. On the back of the PC there are 4 led lights A,B,C, and D. Both A and D light up amber color. B...

They each have their own cable. But share the power cable.

After switching the jumper on the HD to master from CS. In the BIOs it lists the HD as primary master, the secondary master is unknown device. Under boot sequence the CD-ROM is still not installed. Also under the BIOs drive configuration the IDE drive UDMA is on. Not sure if that matters...
