So what happens if a ide hdd jumper is set to master and its conected to the slave position?

Hi i have a pata dvd rw drive and I am unable to open it.When i touch the eject button or press eject in windows it sounds like something ia blocking it. If I use a paper clip I am able to open it and as long as there is a disk in it it opens and closes just fine.Does anybody know how to get it...

Ok, now when I turn it on it says that there is nothing on PATA0 even trough there is the hdd. I put the DVD reader on the hdd cable and it gets detected but the hdd dosent.

I put in a Dell optiplex gx 620 deskop model an 9-10 years old secundary 20 gb PATA hard disk and it shows up in bios as unknow and windows dosent see it. Is there a way i can fix this?
