AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D gaming chip champ drops to $449 at Amazon — $29 off its MSRP

That's still expensive for extra patch of SRAM. I hope Intel comes up with therir version soon, so that AMD can stop gouging everyone with this party trick.

Question Are there any Linux-friendly GPU options in 2025 for a sane price ?

B580 is small. It has only 20 CU and 12GB RAM. It's somewhere around or inferior to 7600XT. At about the same price. Since 9600XT is just around the corner, it looks like much better option.

Question XDP-ON-NIC firewalling on NIC - where to look for cheap-ish options and what can it do?

XDP as in running the eBPF programs per each Ethernet frame received on the NIC, instead on the host. First one to offer that was Netronome, but now it is kind of old. I'm told that cheapest available somewhat contemporary options are Connect-X5 and up, but that there are some limitations and...

Question Are there any Linux-friendly GPU options in 2025 for a sane price ?

nVIdia doesn't have open-source driver stack, which is an issue for me. Nouveau sucks.

Question Are there any Linux-friendly GPU options in 2025 for a sane price ?

I thought AMD's RDNA was supposed to fix at least some usual extortion on the market, but RX9xxx markups are just as bad. BTW, why are EU prices especially atrocious ? EU is in no tariff war with the globe AFAIK. So, what other options are available ? Since I'm looking for open-source friendly...

Question nVidia Bluefield-2 is a bomb - but a few questions remain...

Thanks, but I cooled off in the meantime. It turns out, even though BlueField is a good idea, it is atrociously overpriced, just like whole Connect-XX lines on which it was based. Infiniband itself is just a differrent implementation of network protocol with different tradeoffs and focus on...

Homelabs go in all sort of directions.

Question nVidia Bluefield-2 is a bomb - but a few questions remain...

They are not smart and have no accelerators. I'm looking for something that can economically implement firewall, QoS and router at ISP entrypoint. Since they've just crossed the threshold of 1G optics ( people are getting 2+Gb/s and some even up to 10Gb/s speeds, one would need 2.5/5/10 PHY...

Question nVidia Bluefield-2 is a bomb - but a few questions remain...

Where would homelab builder get it cheaply ? I'd expect that its extra intelligence would come handy at ISP level point for firewalling, traffic shaping, QoS and some essential outward facing services, like DNS etc. For that, one might want 25GbE models, but prices are ... spicey. OTOH one can...

    Question New AMD Zen6 leaks...

We've heard before Zen6 is to use RDNA3.5 instead of RDNA4, but that it looks to me that this is about desktop parts with minimal iGPU and perhaps 8700G successors. Now we have further hints, trickling down through [hothardware](https://hothardware.com/news/amd-zen6-ryzen-ccd-details-leak)...

Question Ryzen 9xxx memory overclocking limits ?

I don't have one at hand, but I don't need it. Once one gets though nitty-gritty and understands how it works,, the logic is simple to follow. There is also some guy on YT that does little else than tweaking parameters for maximal memory OC with different sticks etc. He did just that with Ryzen...

Question Ryzen 9xxx memory overclocking limits ?

Leaving aside usual wisdoms (latency more important than bandwidth, Ryzen 4/5 sweet spot at 6000-6400MHz etc) how high can 9xxx IMC get frequency-wise ? Can it reliably hit 8400MHz with two nice single-rank 24GiB DIMM sticks ? Can it get there with two fast dual-rank sticks ? I'm not asking...

Question Nvidia Mellanox ConnectX-6 stuff at a sane price - - where and how ?

But off-topic. Also, answer would be simple - pretty much any host that has the PCIe bandwidth and at least RAM bandwidth. Also, full saturation capability is not always needed. If one bifurcates the NIC for N x50G or M x25G clients and connect them directly through DAC-splitters to avoid...
