Ended up using DDU to uninstall the current Nvidia driver and went back to the 387.92 release. I tried all of the other 388.xx drivers and this was the most recent that didn't give me any issues. No more driver errors in Event Viewer and no more black screens. Thanks for being reliable, Nvidia.
