Hi All,
I have recently upgraded my system, I was just wondering what would be my best option to upgrade next, its been quite a while my old system was built about 7 years ago.
Old System
Pentium 4 3.4ghz socket 478
Abit IC7 Max 3 Mobo
2gb DDR
Gainward 7800GS Video card (8x AGP)
74gb Raptor...
Thanks again i'll take a look at that, I have looked myself and there are so many different cards I appreciate the advice.
It is however well documented that Nvidia drivers are way ahead of the ATI for cards for Linux that much I know.
Yes I am playing Wow straight from Ubuntu via latest...
Thanks for the advice, the board and processor look nice the only factor would be that ATI cards are not very well supported in Ubuntu/ linux based OS'S and there would have to be a major reason for me to go back to a windows based OS which at the moment I can't see any reason to at all.
So...

Hi,
I bought a secondhand motherboard which has a passive cooler installed on the north bridge, it seems to be running really hot (after its been running several hours its almost too hot to touch)
It is stuck on with some sort of compound, is there anyway to remove it(would prefer this) or...
Ok, its a good 3 years since I have had to replace a power supply and they seem to have changed a lot, all I want to know, is this power supply compatible with a Abit IC7 Max 3 motherboard.
The motherboard is a 20 pin atx + 4pin P4 connection
The psu is this one:
Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R...
Ok, I have tested my power supply and it is in fact dead, there is a small scorch mark on the motherboard (not sure what you call them) but its a small black square with 2 metal tails on, this is just above the AGP slot, I am guessing the board shorted here, causing the power supply to blow up...
OK I presume this is related as I have no idea why it happened.
It has been running fine for 3 -4 days, today I switched it on there was a loud pop, and flash (saw the flash as I still have the side of the case off) and it tripped my fuse box.
It looks like part of my motherboard has blown.
Will...
Firstly thanks for all the prompt replies.
It looks like I have had a lucky escape, the card and pc have now had almost 14 hours drying time, I powered it up on my lunch time to test it again ( I wouldn't be to upset if my card was broken anyway its old !)
It seems there must have been a very...

My water cooling system recently leaked a small amount of water from the cpu block which dripped down on to my Nvidia FX5200 graphics card ( I discovered this afterwards, it was while my computer was on the graphics went blurry and flashing so I switched it off immediatley)
I have sorted...

No. I didn't quite follow the instructions for the bios update. The last step was to clear the cmos which i didn't do immediately, did that the next day.
I don't know if it was the bios update or not. Maybe if i had just cleared the cmos before it may have worked. Clearing the cmos has nothing...
Ok thanks for your help ( the guys that actually tried to help) I have finally sorted it out by clearing my cmos.
I have no idea why this fixed it but it has and its running great now.
