Sounds like a good way for Google to shield itself from legal liability while jailbroken versions of Google Glass would be able to run the facial recognition apps.
This is an interesting article...having a utility to recover partitions not recognized by your OS is a must, and having up-to-date backups has proven invaluable on several occasions.
