Avast Unknowingly Bundled Malware With CCleaner For Almost A Month

My respect and trust in a company depends on how they handle an incident like this. It's clear that this malware was intended to allow another large scale botnet and that there were several breakdowns in the software development process that allowed this to happen. Talos makes it pretty clear...

Ransomware Troubles? Blame Legacy Apps And Patch Problems

This really isn't a Microsoft problem. People don't buy a car expecting the manufacturer to still make parts for it after nearly 20 years. People just cut costs in places they shouldn't cut costs. Back up your data, run a good firewall, isolate systems, and train your people not to be stupid...

SSD Filling Up - What to do?

Move things that are less dependent on drive speed to the HDD and leave the things that need to be fast on the SSD. I used to have my older games with reasonable load times on my HDD and the games with long load times on the SSD. Documents, videos, things like that I leave on the HDD.

What should slight fps drops looks like?

Depends on the game and what is causing the drop. If your transitioning from a very simple scene to a very complex scene quickly you might get a sudden drop in FPS. On the other hand if the complexity increases gradually you'll see a fluid change in FPS. One way to avoid that is to keep the...

    Why ram speed doesn't matter

RAM speed might matter. Depending on the CPU and the game RAM speed can make a big difference or no difference at all. You have to check benchmarks and reviews using your games and hardware to see if it makes a big enough difference for you to care.

    OC'ing Ripjaws 4 2400MHz to.. ??

I just ran the frequency up in steps and did a stability test at each step. If it becomes unstable you can try loosening the timings to see if it helps. I didn't need to increase voltage to reach 2933, it ran fine at 1.2V. I couldn't get past 2933 even with a voltage boost or looser timings. In...

    OC'ing Ripjaws 4 2400MHz to.. ??

You can OC them. I've personally pushed the Ripjaws 4 from 2400 Mhz to 2933 Mhz. But it depends on what you got in the silicone lottery. As long as you're not changing voltage you won't kill the RAM, your system will just be unstable. So before you do this backup your data. On the other hand...

    Is this PC Build good?

Instead of a 3Tb drive get an SSD. Unless you're doing video editing you'll never use the 3Tb, and you'll appreciate the speed of an SSD. Get a 3Gb or 4Gb version of the GTX 1060, at you'll never use more than 4Gb at 1080p, if even that. <edit> before anyone kills me for it. In most games a 6Gb...

Here's The Roadmap For 'Star Citizen' Update 3.0

I don't know why people still get excited by this. The game has basically been stuck in development hell for years. I keep wanting to buy in because I love space sims but Star Citizen has basically become all about selling hype. It used to be $35 buy in to get most of the game, now they want $40...
