    Yeah, the updates keep failing... I don't have another PC to use to create an updated installer however, so I guess I'm letting this one fester. I will be sure to try your solution once I do though, cheers for all the help! I really do appreciate it.

    I had tried the sfc /scannow in the command prompt of the startup after doing chkdsk C: /f as you had instructed before, but it didn't work. However, when i tried again just now, it worked fine! During my 1st run of sfc /scannow, it had detected issues but windows couldn't repair them...
