Which monitor did you get ? For the moment increasing the refresh rate is not a good ideal for almost every monitor ! As far as I know 9/10 turned dead monitor !

I tried a different Mobo and my gpu in now running at @x16 3.0. I return the Maximus VII Hero and waiting for a new one. Thank you guys for helping :)

So I changed the 980ti to the second 16x slot, it is now running at x8 3.0 but some say that the first slot is always faster even it shows x4 1.1 ! Any ideal ?

Whatever vga I put in the first slot it will run a 4x. In the motherboard setup I found out the first slot is always 4x, I can only switch between gen 1, gen 2 and gen 3 but the 4x will remain the same ! I do have a SSD as my boot driver ! But it is plugged in the SATA port !
