Question Can I use my cell phone as a "Yubikey" for my notebook?

If I understand correctly, a "yubikey" is a kind of thumbdrive that acts as a digital lock for a computer - without the yubikey plugged in, no go. Is it possible for me to put an app on my phone, connect the phone to the notebook and use the cell phone as my yubikey? My cell phone is FAR less...

Question Removing all potential bugs from a computer?

I have a Huawei notebook that a school gave to me. It is a Chinese brand, both made and sold in China. I have been reading comments recently about "bugs" and "time bombs" being preinstalled on computers, phones, routers, etc. Not sure how valid it is...but I am thinking of replacing the HD in...

Question Notebook showing signs of age....

I have a 6 year old Huawei that briefly shows a black screen with coding being processed - usually when I start a program, sometimes when I go to a website (but not all programs or not all websites). I know.....notebooks are cheap, but I would like to take this opportunity to learn more about...

Question Accessing a drive - password forgotten :(

I have a couple of hard drives that have Linux - most likely Mint, but one could be Ubuntu. I was using them to learn about Linux...but, obviously I didn't learn very well. There are some photos and things on the drives that I would like to access but I have forgotten the password. Is there...

Question Making public wifi as safe as possible

Good question. I just assumed, because of the timing, that the information was "taken" from my computer while traveling and connecting to wifi at local coffee shops.

Question Making public wifi as safe as possible

Someone accessed a website and purchased a product using my account - have the debit card remembered in the account. It was done the third day of a trip - I had ordered something from that website on the first day of my travels, and had not access that website in...maybe 5 or 6 months.

Question Making public wifi as safe as possible

I periodically read articles about public wifi making users susceptible to viruses, hacking, etc. My internet search says that the following tools are available: antivirus, anti-malware, vpn and firewalls, all available for android and windows. Is this enough? Are there other tools? Would it...

    Question Cookies!

Thank you to all! So managing cookies is a function of the browser. I will look into ghostery. So, a firewall keeps people out of your computer in general, and the browser keeps people from collecting information from your browser?

    Question Cookies!

Some websites are very respectful of our privacy and give us the chance to change cookie settings. Some are not and simply ask if you agree or not. Is there an app (maybe it is a firewall?) that I can install on my computer that will automatically limit a website to only certain cookie functions?

Question Customizing the Windows desktop ?

Thank you, but need more than what rainmeter provides. I want to open Thunderbird and "stick" a reduced size window in the upper right hand corner. Every time I start Windows, Thunderbird will return to the same place. I want my music app to appear below Thunderbird, always opening and self...

Question Customizing the Windows desktop ?

I'm not sure if this is an app or a function of the OS. I would like to be able to specify a 3" by 6" box in the upper right hand corner of my desktop for Thunderbird/email. I would like the area under that to be my mp3 player app, and the areas to the left to be my 3 chat apps. I want all of...

Question Using a RP to burn a Blu-ray disc ?

I have found several posts on the web where people have set up a RP to play Blu-ray discs, but I have not found one where a RP is used to burn one. Is it possible - dependably?
