Thank you! This does seem to be the issue. Unfortunately, the CPU is locked and I can't undervolt it, so thermal paste it is. Thanks for the help.

My Acer Nitro 5 (2018 model, not the newer ones) has massive stuttering on low effort games that ran fine originally. The main games it's really bad on are Don't Starve, and Minecraft. The games go from over 100 fps to 0-2 fps and then back up after a second or two. They seem to occur more...
