Are you running Windows? If so, have you checked the event viewer for errors? I'm leaning toward suspecting the PSU and wouldn't be surprised if you have errors related to power.

Have you tried the original CPU to see if the error is exclusive to the new CPU at this point? Is the memory on the motherboard's QVL for the new CPU?

The click elsewhere in your system was probably a motherboard short because you decided to mess with mobo cabling with the PC on.

I'm using the B550-F version of that board and am very happy with it. There's a version of it that comes with onboard wifi.
