I had this same problem. It happened when I upgraded from a spindle drive to a solid state drive. The BIOS was in the wrong SATA mode. It was set to a legacy IDE versus AHCI mode. switched it to AHCI mode in the BIOS (had to do some reg hacks in Windows 8.1) and then it had since worked like a...
