thanks, i've tried this also. I haven't been able to check the bios one though since there is no power options for me in the bios

i've fitted the old battery again and when i plug in the charger it runs for 10 seconds and then the whole system shuts down since there is no power. So i don't think this could be battery related. it's a 45w charger, i've also tried 65w universal charger. Unfortunately i don't have a link to a shop, i bought it from the sales rep of a supplier directly. the battery is rated at 14.6v
