News Palmer Luckey considering entering laptop market with fully US-made model, wants to know if you'd spend 20% more for an American-made PC

Nobody noticed he's claiming 20% more expensive than Apple. Apple charges 2 grand for a laptop with 512GB of storage.

News XFX releases hulking quad-slot triple-fan AMD GPU — XFX Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phoenix Nirvana graphics card launches in China at $1,100

I have no idea where you got the idea that PTM7950 has a thermal conductivity rating of THOUSANDS of W/mK, its rating is 8.5W/mK. That makes it identical to MX4 and not a real selling point.

News Nintendo obliterates 8,535 Yuzu repos — Nintendo's most effective DMCA takedown campaign in years

There is no provision for "Fair use" in Japan. So, Nintendo gets to be as litigious as they want.

Review Intel Core i5-14400 review: Intel's value gaming chip falls behind AMD

If we're going purely for price-to-performance, I'd argue you can go one step farther down the stack with an i5-12400F which can regularly be found on a particular Amazon-run overstock site for $99. With a $20 cooler, and some kind of motherboard with halfway decent VRM cooling, you're off to...

Review Intel Core i5-14400 review: Intel's value gaming chip falls behind AMD

I suppose that's the difference between "adequate" and "recommended." It's well established at this point that newer Intel CPUs' performance is determined by how long they can sustain boost clocks, and many motherboards' default BIOS settings exceed the Intel recommendations for boost clock...

News Determined enthusiasts are building a custom 3dfx graphics card — VoodooX has 32MB RAM and DVI output

These are neat projects, but I wish somebody would sort out the stability with the DDR memory controller that was intended for use in the V4 4800. Anything less than that, I'd prefer just using a wrapper honestly.

News AMD quietly confirms worldwide launch for Ryzen 7 8700F, Ryzen 5 8400F — official specs revealed

"Compared to AMD's outgoing Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G. The 8700F is clocked 100 MHz less on the base and boost clock compared to the 8700G." What do you mean "outgoing?" They aren't discontinued, unless you have information about this.

News M2 MacBook Pro SSD became so full that data couldn't be deleted — user had to wipe SSD to make system functional again

The solution is not simple, it would take a lot of knowledge about Macs to fix this. Not even knowledge that your typical power Mac user would know - someone who uses the Adobe suite regularly on a Mac probably would not know about Target mode unless they previously needed to utilize it. I...

News M2 MacBook Pro SSD became so full that data couldn't be deleted — user had to wipe SSD to make system functional again

If Target Mode exists with Thunderbolt, then it would have worked. That functionality is integrated into UEFI, so even if the operating system is non functional, if the system can POST then it works. Might take a PRAM reset to make it work, but it's always there and functional so long as UEFI is...

News M2 MacBook Pro SSD became so full that data couldn't be deleted — user had to wipe SSD to make system functional again

MacOS is, at its core, still based on Unix; Unix has always been more sensitive to extremely full disks. Perhaps the actual issue here is that Unix, being more powerful than Windows, is able to fill every last nook and cranny of the disk until its ability to function is compromised, where...

RTX 4070 Ti drops to lowest-ever $719 price, making the RTX 4080 even more irrelevant

I agree with valthuer. $719 for a 12GB GPU is not a deal. On the other hand, the XFX Speedster RX 7900 XT I ordered yesterday from Newegg for the exact same price, is a great deal with 20GB. That deal ended yesterday and I jumped on it.

News Modder Runs Coffee Lake CPU in a Kaby Lake/Skylake Motherboard

This mod has significant relevance, 8th and 9th gen meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11 while 7th does not. If TPM2.0 compatibility is intact, this brings someone's 2016-2017 build into official compatibility ahead of Microsoft dropping Windows 10 support in 2025.

News RX 7900M Beats RTX 4080 Mobile By a Hair In Early Benchmark

Oh, brother! You know how I know this is a biased article? AMD's RX 7900M having 4% gains over an RTX4080 Laptop GPU is considered winning by a hair, while 4% gains in raster performance gen-on-gen from nVidia are considered acceptable. All the while, nVidia is *still* shorting gamers on VRAM...

News Windows 11's 23H2 Update ISO and Moment 4 Are Ready for Installation

As a local account user, I can personally confirm that the newest version of Rufus is compatible with the new 23H2 build and can still perform the same tweaks as before to the install media as it's created.
