News Western Digital to Ship 20TB OptiNAND HDDs in November

Seagate has had a "SSHD" lineup for a while. Platter drive with a small SSD cache for things like boot up or commonly used files. In my limited experience, they worked well speeding up boot times, but the laptop drives weren't very reliable. It would occasionally flush out the cache entirely...

[SOLVED] Is processor still good and will it affect my laptop if not?

You can find whole system boards with the higher-end processors i5/i7 processors on them for reasonable prices on Ebay usually. I changed out one in a HP Probook for $100 for the i7u variant...which is far cheaper than buying a totally new computer. RAM is a pretty easy upgrade as well...

[SOLVED] Is processor still good and will it affect my laptop if not?

If the i3 is a newer laptop, they are for sure different generations; most processors after Ivy Bridge/Haswell are soldered to the motherboard too. In short...no.

[SOLVED] Difference between two processors: i5-1035G4 vs i7-1065G7

Sounds like you are moving in the right direction as you want thin/long battery life/powerful then. I do expect 4 cores will continue to be enough power for years to come, as it still makes up most of the existing market. The 15W TDP processors, due to thin/light cooling solutions, will...

[SOLVED] Difference between two processors: i5-1035G4 vs i7-1065G7

Just to throw another thing out there, there are 6 and even 8 core laptop processors on the market now. Intel made their lineup confusing for the 10th generation chips by taking away some of the differentiation in naming conventions, but both of the CPUs you are looking at are "low power"...

[SOLVED] HDD takes 110 seconds to boot with Windows.

HDDs with Win10 are very slow. 2+ mins is pretty typical even on a fresh install in my experience until some of the common files are cached into the ReadyBoot/Superfetch cache or 'fast startup' is enabled. That will decrease boot time slightly, but it's still nowhere near the ~10 sec or so...

Router itself - Google's is usually recommended. Just curious - does this same drop happen when you're connected to the Router's WiFi, or just when connected to the range extender?

Question Wifi extender is bamboozling me...

Sounds like it's losing connection to a DNS server, but maintaining its connection to a specific IP address that it doesn't necessarily need to reach out to a DNS server anymore. You could try setting alternate DNS servers for it to fall back to depending on your ISP.

    [SOLVED] Drive configuration in NAS

Two drives will duplicate data in most NAS setups for backup purposes (RAID 1). If you lose one, you won't lose all data. 4 TB drives are fairly cheap now, but if you need more storage, go ahead and spend the extra $ up front for 2x 6 or 8 TB drives, and that should put you right in the...

[SOLVED] NAS while using an access point

It should work fine, and the MyCloud requires login to access anything on the drive, so that's not really an issue either. You may need to access the main router admin page and set up port forwarding outside the network to access it outside the home. I had a MyCloud Gen 1 and found it pretty...
