Installed Windows XP alongside Windows 98; Need to fix boot.ini

Hi there. I had windows 98 installed at C:\Windows. I then proceeded to install Windows XP in C:\setup (SAME PARTITION). Windows 98 has been erased from the bootloader, and I need to put it back. So far, I have had no luck. I cannot reinstall the OS from a bootable media. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Do you happen to have a copy of the dump file to upload?

    Crash after a bluescreen

Do you happen to have a copy of the dump file? (Either the smaller one in \Windows\Minidump or the bigger one in \Windows\MEMORY.DMP [a file])? *oof, I wasn't typing. MEMORY_MANAGEMENT is usually indicative of problems with the RAM. Try running a program called "Memtest x86". If any red errors...

    Lenovo Y50-70 wont charge

Understanding that the image is identical to your problem, it shouldn't be burnt to a crisp like that. Most of the time the entire board would have to be replaced, in all honesty.

    lenovo y520 storage drive upgrade

Your UEFI setup program should tell you if there is another slot. To find out: Go into the start menu and type "Change Advanced Startup Options", click <----, click "Restart Now", and find the option labled "Troubleshoot". In that menu should be an option to restart into UEFI Setup which will...

Samsung rv518. How its good for basic tasks?

a 32 bit version of Windows can only use 4GB RAM, so in this case it wouldn't really matter, but always go with 64-bit if available. If the hard drive is dying, you should replace that first. Even a first generation i3 is decent for semi-intensive (not gaming/rendering) work.

    VAIO Error Loop

This may indicate a more general hardware issue (i.e not the drive), because a bootable USB should not be impacted by the state of your hard drive.

Windows wiped my partition in an update!

If you were able to boot Windows and it claims the C: drive is empty, that's an issue. Clearly, it's not empty but everything besides the important system files were wiped. I would recommend putting the drive in another machine and scanning for lost files. ^Even if Windows is broken, it still...

Reboot cycle, blank screen, can't get bios

Windows 10 will work fine with the system. Resetting the EC is actually supposed to fix basic problems with the system. You can do this (again; try resetting the EC again) by (quoted from https://www.xoticpcforums.com): HOW TO RESET THE EC IF YOUR LAPTOP IS MSI-BRAND To do this, follow the...

Maxon, does the black screen with the cursor appear when you boot from the USB drive (I'm assuming this is a recovery disk) or your hard drive? (clarification). Thanks.

Board's probably shot. You should send it in.

    Path too long

No; that's a limitation with the NTFS file system. If you want to move a file with a name that's too long, move it to the root of your C:\ Drive and rename it.

How to know if Windows 10 is Genuine?

Did you custom build your computer? Hold down the Windows Key and press Pause/Break. A window called "System" will show up. In Windows 10, all you need to know is that if it says "Activated", it's all good to go. There's no section called Windows Genuine Advantage or anything like that.

    Why a Recovery Partition

When you boot Windows, it doesn't boot from your C drive. Instead, your machine takes the information from the "EFI SYSTEM PARTITION" and uses it to figure out what operating systems are on your computer. From there, the partition invokes the Windows Boot Loader (another partition), which starts...
