You can use your own router as long as you DO NOT have FiOS TV. OR if you do have FiOS TV, get a TiVO. just plug the ethernet jack into the ONT and you're set. Also you gotta call customer support but in my testing, I really like their router.

AT&T Uverse is not fiber, atleast a majority of it. It comes in the house through a phone line, rj11, a cable that does not even have twisted pairs to cancel out crosstalk. AT&Ts gigabit internet is true fiber. Verizon all the way, its reliable, upgradeable, and has better ping and latency...

Not true actually and I apologize how late I am lol. standard RJ-45 ethernet cables have 8 wires but only 4 is used for networking data. 2 is used for voice aka telephone wire. last 2 are analog audio or somethin like that. Soooo standard RJ-11 cable wired into this apartment contains 4 wires...
