News Toshiba launches 24TB hard drives priced up to $649 for NAS systems

What am I missing here? Seagate Exos X24 drives are enterprise class, came out in 2023, readily available, and cost $480. Sure, they have half the write cache, but is 512MB of cache worth $180 more? Any good NAS will have an NVMe cache drive anyways.

News G.Skill debuts world's first 256GB (64GBx4) DDR5-6000 CL32 UDIMM memory kit with EXPO support

Just bought 2x32GB 6000 CL28 modules. Every now and then I max it. I'll probably upgrade in a year or two, see if DDR5 matures even more.

Review Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro Review: The best AIO for Ryzen 9950X3D, and Intel too

I just installed an NZXT Kraken 360 AIO and quite disappointed with the results on my 9950x3D. All stock + EXPO and I'm idling around ~60C and easily loading up to 95C during stress testing. Thought it had to be my thermal paste application. Went with Kryonaut paste. Repasted it and went even...

News Nvidia's PhysX and Flow go open source — Running legacy PhysX on RTX 50 may be possible using wrappers

Good job! Aren't you so proud of yourself? You've really contributed to society here.

Review Asus ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming Wifi Review: Copious USB Ports and 5.0 M.2

Just got mine last night! Paired with the 9950x3D, 64GB 6000 CL28, and moving my 4090 over. Building it out today after work. Super excited to upgrade from X299.

News Real-world graphics card prices cost up to twice the MSRP

I get scalpers taking advantage of people, but retailers!? That's a low blow to the consumer. During the 3000 and 4000 supply issues, you could still pick up from a retailer at MSRP - if you got lucky and got one before they sold out within seconds. Anybody who buys at scalped prices is...

News Zen 5-based Threadripper 9000 CPU shipping manifest hints at imminent launch

Probably a much higher base and boost clock. Or the data is wrong.

News Nvidia earned nearly as much as its next 9 fabless rivals combined last year

Yet they still gave us the RTX 5000 series. You'd think the last two years of excellent sales would have spurred a bigger push in R&D. Here's hoping the 6000 series takes advantage of this massive capital and we can have a repeat of the 3000 series - huge jump in performance and a drop in price...

News Windows 11 Mixed Reality support revived for Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S headsets

Old article, sorry, but I must post my complaints. It's incredibly frustrating that WMR isn't supported anymore on 24H2+ for dedicated WMR headsets. My HP Reverb G2 is completely useless in 24H2 and has been rendered a paperweight. The comfort and visual quality of the Reverb is superior to the...

News Bill Gates says Intel has lost its way, hints that 'brave' Pat Gelsinger exited too soon

Also, in the same way, camera manufacturers are stagnant compared to cell phones. Canon, Nikon, and even Sony are lagging behind in photo and video production. I get that you can do a lot with what you have, but it requires professional level understanding to maximize the results. Besides Depth...

News Microsoft reveals improved Windows 11 battery icons and percentage toggle settings

Thanks for the reply, I learned a little more after digging around. On my XPS and Latitude systems, there isn't any BIOS option to set percentages for the battery. There is, however, options to specify how you use it, such as "Primarily AC". My understanding was that's how aggressive the system...

News EVGA closes its official forums and transitions to Reddit

EVGA was king. Still is, but sad to see them dwindling. Like others, I was all EVGA. Systems I've built for others were all EVGA as well. Still rocking the 3080 FTW3 in my second desktop. When they announced they were pulling out of the GPU market, I knew it would eventually be the end of their...

News Microsoft reveals improved Windows 11 battery icons and percentage toggle settings

What I'd like to see most is the ability to limit charge to 80% or 90%. This would require collaboration between the manufacturer, particularly between the firmware and the OS. After three years on my XPS 13 9310, the battery only has about 60% capacity. Fortunately, it's not too hard to replace...

News After 18 years, Blu-ray media production draws to a close — Sony shuts its last factory in Feb

This will usher a massive piracy of film. Those on modern desktops will use their GPUs to enhance their experience and local downloads. If only the audio experience could join the experience. The disc is still king.

News Seagate unveils 36TB HAMR hard drive: Mozaic 3+ extended

Good to see more progress in large HDDs. Still waiting for 20TB HDDs to come down in price. A lifetime of files adds up quickly and cloud storage is very expensive. I'm always surprised that there isn't more demand for large drives on a personal level.
