So the correct way would be to say i have 3 6+2 plugged into the gpu one of which is one cable with 2 6+2 on it

My bad, i have a modular psu i have extra slots for whatever i need. The power for the gpu is in the right spot, it has 2 6+2 on it and i plugged another 8pin into the psu and it also has a 6+2 on it.

So do i need to use 3 separate 6+2 8pins?

They are 8 pins but all of them are 6+2

EDIT. THE CABLE THAT HAS 2 IS WHAT I USED ON MY OLD GPU AND THE OTHER ONE IS A SPARE FROM THE BAG OF EXTRAS THEY GIVE YOU.

Both cables are from the extra cables that come with the psu

If you go with a 2nd gen ryzen make sure you get as 470 board otherwise you'll have to updates bios on 370 board. Back to the main question, i would go with the 2600 or get a R7 2700x, and for ram i would stick to 1 stick of 8gb or 2 8gb sticks, either 3000mhz or 3200mhz.

Why would you even want to overclock? 9700k can play 4k,1440p at stock with good frames. Overclocking will only get you a few more fps, honestly not worth it unless you plan on going for some kind of record.
