Yeah, multi room audio is one thought. Bluetooth or other wireless speakers.. Or even a party/wedding, with speakers at each table.

News Before Windows 10 goes EOL, I'm testing three alternative Linux distros to save my 6-year-old laptop from the landfill

Big company with VLK Licensing. We have already had LTSC versions a few years ago, but things happen, and IT ideas shift... We still have WinXP machines, though they are banned from being anywhere near the Internet. Cheers ;)

News Before Windows 10 goes EOL, I'm testing three alternative Linux distros to save my 6-year-old laptop from the landfill

Thanks for your reply Loadedaxe. ;) Yeah, I looked at that. I think i'm going to propose one of the LTSC versions of Win10, as they may have been using one of them a couple of years ago, and they will have support for a few years at least. It might have been the 1809 version, which will mean no...

We have Win10 machines that have to be qualified with the software installed, and the qualification process is months long. They have only just started to qualify Win11, barely...

News Before Windows 10 goes EOL, I'm testing three alternative Linux distros to save my 6-year-old laptop from the landfill

Does anyone have any official info that Win10 will still receive at least some security updates after October ? Some people at work are going ballistic, and I can't find an official statement from microsoft, except that there will be no security updates...

News Before Windows 10 goes EOL, I'm testing three alternative Linux distros to save my 6-year-old laptop from the landfill

FWIW, I had a problem with Windows 10 incessantly corrupting a new external 4TB ssd (samsung 870 Evo 4TB Sata) , mostly by not letting it be removed, even with a clean shutdown. I had tried to clone the disk from the 2TB ssd to the 4TB ssd, but it took many hours (with clone cd bootable usb...

News Blower-style RTX 5090D leaked on Bilibili — two-slot GPU design built for AI rigs

I liked all of my Blower cards. Seems logical to send all that heat out of the back of the case. This does mean that this card will be able to be waterblocked to one slot too ;) Yay.

News Facebook admits that the Linux topic crackdown was 'in error' and has been fixed

Today it's Linux stuff, tomorrow its any free speech. Wake up and smell the roses, ditch FB/IG/anything by them. Get your "News" elsewhere. X/Twitter is being lambasted for being "Non Censored". You should think about that for a bit. If you're going to be on platforms that prone censorship...

News xAI Colossus supercomputer with 100K H100 GPUs comes online — Musk lays out plans to double GPU count to 200K with 50K H100 and 50K H200

I can see him somehow connecting Colossus, Cortex and Memphis together. Nothing better than to have a huge supercomputer spread over multiple sites for security and redundancy. If he needs network bandwidth and security, he has Starlink.

News Nvidia gaming GPUs modded with 2X VRAM for AI workloads — RTX 4090D 48GB and RTX 4080 Super 32GB go up for rent at Chinese cloud computing provider

Back in the day, when this was possible, they were almost all proprietary, and were not cheap... I remember getting a memory upgrade for my Matrox Mystique... Also, the memory type changes every couple of generations. I could see it happening on High end Pro cards, as a memory doubler thing...

News Ryzen 5 9600X benchmarks show doubled cache bandwidth improvements — leaked AIDA64 benchmarks point to much faster L1 and L2 cache

Could they layer an AI die with the X3D die ? Or another compute type die ? That would certainly be a differentiator. Companies have talked about having "extra's" within memory die's, so there's thaat ...
