    Question Smartwatch/Fitness tracker buying advice?

If anyone is familiar with the smartwatches and fitness trackers on the market, I would greatly appreciate some advice for models that fit all or most of these requirements: Rectangular and narrow watch body Has interchangeable watch bands (preferably with an all-metal option) Controls music...

    Question Over-provisioning on non-Samsung/Crucial SSDs?

For future readers, it appears that the answer to this part of the original question can be summarized as "Yes."

    Question Over-provisioning on non-Samsung/Crucial SSDs?

It's so funny, actually! I was literally just typing up an edit to amend my original post... The purpose of this question carries the assumption that the user wants to over-provision their SSD, e.g. because they perform a lot of read/writes and often operate at close-to-maximum capacity. Advice...

    Question Over-provisioning on non-Samsung/Crucial SSDs?

Is it possible to over-provision an SSD without using Samsung Magician or Crucial Storage Executive (which AFAIK only work on Samsung and Crucial SSDs, respectively)? The only source I've been able to find is this guide (more of an advertisement) from MiniTool, which suggests: The bolded...

Question [Solved] Is it dangerous to connect a 2.5 SATA SSD to a (SATA-powered) 3.5 HDD enclosure?

You're right, of course. Ultimately this is a fool's errand. But I am a fool and I wanted to see if it would work - but wanted to make sure I wasn't about to do a known-stupid thing first, so I came here. This is the level of knowledge that gives me confidence that, at the very least, it won't...

Question [Solved] Is it dangerous to connect a 2.5 SATA SSD to a (SATA-powered) 3.5 HDD enclosure?

Ok. The enclosure is a WD Cavalry HDD from 2007. Here's an example of it. https://technogog.com/review/cavalry-caxe37500-500gb-usb-20esata-35-external-hdd/ You're certain that the PCB would have the circuitry to provide both 12V and 5V, even if it was designed for an external HD that contains a...

Question [Solved] Is it dangerous to connect a 2.5 SATA SSD to a (SATA-powered) 3.5 HDD enclosure?

I have an old external 3.5-inch HDD. For lack of a normal SATA-USB cable, I want to use its enclosure to connect a 2.5-inch SATA SSD to my PC's USB port. The HDD enclosure has a separate AC power cable. When I opened up the enclosure, I saw the AC power goes directly into the PCB, which has a...

Transparency effects not working - is computer too old?

Yes, power plan is on high. Good thought, though. I've tried using driver versions... 20.19.15.5171 (dated 2020, so the most recent) 20.19.15.4549 (dated 2016, but for some reason v5171 will update to this with the "Update driver" button) 15.40.48.5171 (dated 2021, but per Intel naming...

Transparency effects not working - is computer too old?

I believe I put the gpu driver as Intel HD Graphics Family (at least, that's what it says in device manager). I assume not, otherwise it would've been included in Windows Update, or found when I click "Search automatically for drivers," right?

Transparency effects not working - is computer too old?

Ok true, win 11 isn't officially supported, but it doesn't really answer the question. Win 11 transparency effects are the same as Win 10 transparency effects, and that OS was supported. I'm hoping someone might be able to say, "Oh you have 128 MB of VRAM, the problem is windows transparency...

Transparency effects not working - is computer too old?

You mean is my Windows 11 Home installation activated? Yes. My computer is 9 years young, thank you ;) In all seriousness, though, it was able to install Win 11 and it cold boots in like 6 seconds. It has no problem running Adobe CC Photoshop and Premiere, Autodesk Meshmixer, Android Studio...

Transparency effects not working - is computer too old?

I'm trying to get transparency effects in Windows 11. I have tried and/or enabled the following recommendations I've found online: Settings > Personalization > Colors > Transparency Effects Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects > Transparency Effects...

Question XB1 controller shows up in Device Manager but is not detected by games or Xbox Accessories app ?

No option to calibrate, and uninstalling the driver and rebooting didn't make a difference, unfortunately. Thankful for your responses and would love any additional suggestions anyone might have!

Question XB1 controller shows up in Device Manager but is not detected by games or Xbox Accessories app ?

Not a stupid question at all. Dev Mgmt listed it as "Xbox One Controller" and I didn't see an option to calibrate, but I might have missed it. I'll try that, as well as uninstalling the driver then rebooting, once I have access to that computer again next week.

Question XB1 controller shows up in Device Manager but is not detected by games or Xbox Accessories app ?

I have an Xbox One controller attached to my Windows 11 PC via USBIP* and it shows up in Device Manager and Control Panel, appearing to be connected as normal with no errors in the event log. In Device Manager, the controller's drivers appear to be up-to-date, showing it as an "Xbox One...
