News GPU compatibility dilemma as more high-end power supplies ditch 8-pin connectors in favor of new 16-pin

I can see the logic. That explains very well why the RTX 30x0 series never melted. (or at least, was so one-off and so random that its practically unheard of) Still doesn't explain why Nvidia has not abandoned their terrible decision to use that connector in the first place. Besides, there's...

News Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti final specs and launch day allegedly leaked

It looks like they photoshopped the 12VHPWR connector out of the provided image. Unfortunately that is probably how this will work and it is unlikely that Nvidia has fixed their power delivery on lower end models, but not on the higher end models.

News GPU compatibility dilemma as more high-end power supplies ditch 8-pin connectors in favor of new 16-pin

The spread of this will likely force AMD into using that 12VHPWR connector. As long as AMD treats that connector the way Nvidia did on the 30x0 series and not the 40x0 and 50x0 series of video cards by separating the power, AMD will be fine. The 30x0 cards didn't melt. The connector isn't the...

News AMD RX Vega 64 runs Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at well over 30FPS in Linux with RADV driver

Not really symbiotic. Future plc can't really trap you the way Apple can trap you, or Google, Microsoft, and many others. When they trap you it's an abusive relationship. It stops being money freely earned and products freely purchased/kept due specifically to superiority or a niche use case...

News ASML recalls its humble origins in a ‘leaky shed’ in Eindhoven, circa 1984 — it now makes the most cutting-edge chipmaking tools on the planet

This isn't in the same league as a garage startup. It is humble for sure compared to how some other corporate sponsored entities get their start. Looking at some pictures though I do not see the HP garage directly connected to the Xerox corporate building, for example.

News Nvidia power meltdowns hit 8-pin adaptors — old power supplies are the common factor

Going forward for RTX 60x0, this is the proper power connector for an Nvidia GPU since they are so power hungry. The old tried and true. This one aint gonna melt. ATX24.

News AMD RX Vega 64 runs Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at well over 30FPS in Linux with RADV driver

This, right here folks, is an example of why Linux is the future of gaming. .... its why Valve is so heavily invested in Linux. No corporate hold-backs. No Microsoft limitations. No driver cut-offs. No more artificial planned obsolescence. A modder can easily do what a modder wants to do...

News Watch Jensen Huang’s Nvidia GTC 2025 keynote here — Blackwell 300 AI GPUs expected

I want to see Jensen Huang stand on stage and hold up a 12VHPWR connector and tell the world "We heard you" "We fixed it this time"

News Motherboard dies after marathon 100-hour BIOS update process, vigil attended by thousands online

Back in the day I remember reading somewhere a process that I saw once referred to as a "hotflash", that is boot a similar/same motherboard, and with the second motherboard running remove the good BIOS chip and install the failed. Now flash the chip. Once the process is complete shut down the...

News MSI Afterburner update enables RTX 50 series owners to push their GDDR7 VRAM up to 36 GT/s

Um. Overclocking? 12VHPWR. I wouldn't do that. Underclocking? Yes.

News Keller and Koduri headline the Beyond CUDA Summit today — AI leaders rally to challenge Nvidia's dominance

We have 5 standards, each competing with the other and no clear winner. Here's an idea, what if everybody could rally behind just one standard? *creates new standard* Afterwards: There are 6 competing standards.

News Huawei's Microsoft Windows license for PCs expires this month, company launching PCs with Harmony OS: Report

That will for sure speed up the adoption of non-Windows computers in China. From what I have seen China has wanted to see Windows get ditched for a long time now, but due to such huge numbers of people using it they can't really do anything about it. Makes me wonder if other Chinese companies...
