i7 3770k should be plenty. I cant see in the next 7 years using 12 threads for gaming. gtx 680's are good; 7970's are better usually(it varies from game to game), and cheaper. 860 w will be plenty.

You don't need a z77 mobo for a non-k cpu, as it doesn't oc more than the boost. Drop the ssd; it brings no actual perf. gain.

Pretty much anything previous to '09, and most modern games as well. Only Crysis 2, 3; Metro 2033, the witcher, maybe bf3 won't run on ultra. Actually a few more modern games need high settings, but is ultra that important to you? They will run on high (which is still good, trust me) Update...

Gaming w/ a $3000 rig at 1080p? Why not get a couple more monitors, and play at 1080*5760? With $3000, one monitor seems a waste. As for specs, a couple 7970's with an i5 3570k/3770k and a z77 board. corsair, xfx, seasonic or antec psu between 750 and 850w.

It might MINIMALLY increase graphics, but check if the cpu is soldered to the mobo first. Laptops are just not upgrade friendly

Yes 8 gigs ram is plenty, and no, you can't upgrade the graphics card, because, simply put, it doesn't have one, and it probly wouldn't have space. If you had a magic lamp maybe....

Check to see the temps of your cpu while benchmarking. Maybe Psu as well? If you have a friend with a compatable mobo, you could try a processor swap (though I don't recommend this as they're quite fragile).
