Yeah it could be... Try Always to Plug HDD/PDs n USB drives directly on Motherboard (As it provides Best power to drives). OR there might be some problem with Windows . So try reinstalling windows by taking back up or recover it.

Do you mean Sound hardware on Motherboard or External Sound Card ?? If External >> Try reinstalling it by cleaning chip by eraser & If on Motherboard >> Might be some problem with Windows.. & if all good better take it to repair

Many people doesn't like Win8. But I loved it. It grants you Great speed. GUI is also better. & there is no problem for Newer games on Win8. Go for Win8 >>

Just format the drive or atleast thoe 2 drives & Recreate partitions . Then jut Install fresh copy of Windows..
