News Twenty percent of hard drives used for long-term music storage in the 90s have failed

For those that don't know: 3 Copies ("a safety copy" according to the article is only 2) 2 different formats (e.g. one on hard drive and one on LTO tape, which 2 HDDs again does not satisfy) 1 off-site (ideally the different format) So put a copy on two hard drives and one in the cloud would...

News 39-Year-Old 4.77 MHz DOS Web Server Hits 2,500 Hours of Uptime

Yeah I ran a very similar PC for my router in Highschool on my 10Base-T home network when I finally got "broadband" aka a 600kbps wireless uplink to a rural WISP. I think I was running Coyote Linux off of a floppy

News Matrox Teams up With Nvidia for Video Wall Graphics Cards

I remember the Matrox G400 Dual Head. Awesome to have dual monitors and accelerated bump mapping but the second buggiest, most inconsistent, worst GPU purchase I've ever made. (Worst GPU award goes to the voodoo Rush card)

Imagination Creates PowerVR GR6500 Low-Power Real-Time Ray Tracing GPU

Why would you be surprised that dedicated hardware (Raytracing chip) can outperform a general compute approach (Cuda raytracing). I would be *shocked* if raytracing weren't an order of magnitude faster on a dedicated chip. In fact full disclosure I demo'ed Caustic's previous raytracing card...
