News There is no way a Borderlands game is that demanding' — Borderlands 4 users furious as PC requirements reveal RTX 3070 minimum GPU, 3080 recommended

Read the footnotes in the first slide: So in actuality all "paywalled day 1 content" that remains after that is cosmetics. Gasp. A game in 2025 trying to make you prepurchase DLC/Season Pass with the more expensive editions, and padding them with cosmetics? Imagine. You don't have to buy DLC...

News AMD B850 Mini ITX motherboard with PCIe slots on both sides teased ahead of Computex

At least DAN Cases has a line of very compact ITX cases dubbed "A4". They're manufactured by Lian Li.

News AMD 16-core Zen 5c die shots show long, narrow CCX, all 16 cores sharing a single L3 cache

"C" stands for cloud-optimized; improved efficiency for die area and power, as well as increased core counts. Cache takes up lots of space, so "C" CCDs have less of it per core. While the architecture is exactly the same as regular Zen 5, the cores are build denser, so can't clock as high. But...

News Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT hides its 16-pin connector inside, offers cableless look

High-end Nvidia RTX 40 and 50 cards burn because Nvidia has continually simplified/shrunk the power delivery on the graphics cards' side - removing load balancing and protection features that were there for the 3090 series. Buildzoid did a video recently analyzing the routings (and ranting as...

News AMD's game-changing Strix Halo APU, formerly Ryzen AI Max, poses for new die shots

They wouldn't waste two functional CCXes on a heavily cut down I/O / graphics die. You'd get the gaming version; just 8 cores on a single CCX. And only two memory channels for the lowest model.

News AMD denies 9070 XT leaked prices — '$899 USD starting price point was never part of the plan

Nvidia has a history of fake MSRP pricing, where that is accurate only on a small batch of units at release (so they can claim the price is "real"). After the initial stock is sold through, all or almost all supply is for the higher cost board partner models. It is actually in AMD's best...

News AMD’s beastly ‘Strix Halo’ Ryzen AI Max+ debuts with radical new memory tech to feed RDNA 3.5 graphics and Zen 5 CPU cores

The slide doesn't say "average 2.6 times". It says "average 2.6X faster", which means +260%. That fits all the other numbers. The graphs have a "100%" bar, so they're depicting performance compared to that reference point - not uplift from a comparison value. So "340%" means 3.4 times the...

News MSI Afterburner author says triple fan RTX 5080 GPUs will have three independent fan controllers — Async speed control support for all three fans t...

But the fans usually aren't cooling the same parts exactly. For example power delivery circuitry is usually located at the far end of the PCB. Not only that, the layout of the graphics card causes fans to have varying level of obstruction in their air path, so be more or less expensive...

News Unannounced Ryzen 9 9950X3D dominates Ryzen 7 9800X3D in Factorio benchmark – Ryzen 9000X3D flagship up to 18% faster than current fastest gaming CPU

The reason the 7950X3D didn't have V-Cache on both CCDs was that it didn't give better performance (as per AMD's internal testing), but not (mainly) because of lower frequency, but the added latency from CCD-to-CCD hops. If a game ever gets scheduled on cores on two different CCDs, the two hops...

News Asus launches triple-fan RX 6750 GRE Megalodon GPU – midrange RDNA 2 GPU still plentiful even in late 2024

The article says: The RX 6600 series (6650XT, 6600XT and 6600) all use the smaller Navi 23.

News Intel is trucking a 916,000-pound 'Super Load' across Ohio to its new fab, spawning road closures over nine days

African or Indian elephants? A number of regular fully-loaded semi trucks would have been a far more effective analogue; Not only do very few people have an instinct for how much elephants weigh, African elephants are much heavier than Indian ones (~1.6×). (Brings to mind Monty Python and the...

News Baidu's AI breakthrough can meld GPUs from different brands into one training cluster — company says new tech fuses thousands of GPUs together to...

SLI overhead affected gaming because the need for precise synchronization and low latency. (And what finally killed it was the impending move to low-level APIs such as DX12 and Vulkan, where it would have fallen on game developers to implement multi-GPU on each game.) Depending on the kind of...

News AMD lists three new Ryzen Zen 3+ processors — without integrated graphics

There's bound to be some kind of error in this data still. Zen 3 has 64 kB of L1 cache per core, but the listing shows total 384 kB. Either the reported cache amount is wrong, or these Ryzen 5 parts have the customary 6 cores instead of the listed 4.

News AMD updates FreeSync minimum requirements — 144Hz or higher refresh rate needed for 1080p and 1440p displays

I think the ≥2.5 max/min ratio is required for FreeSync Low Framerate Compensation (LFC) to work - that's the only mention of it I've found.
