You can run reset-all.exe to undo the changes. You should only need to disable GPU scaling by selecting "Display" in the NVIDIA control...

It's the same on NVIDIA. You need to disable GPU scaling or remove the 4K profile from the monitor.

1440p with 125% scaling VS 4K with 200% scaling
.
1440p with 133% scaling would be equivalent to 4K 200% (i.e. 1080p). 1440p 125% will give very slightly more real estate.
