For $60, they aren't doing much. If it was a hdd it would be a power supply replacement or something very basic, not a cleanroom operation or actual dissassembly of the drive. You need a better diagnosis of what the drive actually needs, but in reality $60 is not going to solve your problem if...

All I can say is BACK IT UP while you can. No severe noises like that from mine and it recently failed. Not to scare you..it worked great for 18 months. Just be warned.
