Is a PSU blown after turning on a computer with the switch on "O"?

Seems good. Thanks for the help! I have no idea on modding anything, so I'm leaving all parts as is.

Is a PSU blown after turning on a computer with the switch on "O"?

Reliable and decent costing, likely $125 or less. I didn't expect my PSU to get busted up, and I'm seeing some decent sales on newegg: $60 Rosewill Valens-500M, Valens Series 500W Modular Power Supply, 80 PLUS Gold Certified, Single +12V Rail, Intel 4th Gen CPU Ready, SLI & Crossfire Ready...

Is a PSU blown after turning on a computer with the switch on "O"?

Any recommendations on PSUs? I calculated a basic setup for recommended wattage using eXtreme PSU Calculator: XOV PSU Calculator component list Motherboard: Desktop (micro ATX) Socket: Socket LGA 1150 CPU: 1 x Intel Core i5-4460 3200 MHz Haswell-DT Memory: 2 x 8GB DDR3 Module Video Card: 1 x...

Is a PSU blown after turning on a computer with the switch on "O"?

Everything was plugged in correctly, there wasn't anything else I can find to not plug in. The PSU was quite old, opened up the PSU case from the top and there was a smudge and something melted on it. Then there was some black ooze in the PSU according to where the smudge was at. Not to mention...

Is a PSU blown after turning on a computer with the switch on "O"?

Thank you guys. I made a dumb move on flipping the psu switch again to an open connection instead of closed. Hope the rest of the components are safe too. EDIT: Everything else looks good. The PSU is definitely dead, pieces fell out from the fan when I took it out from the case.

Is a PSU blown after turning on a computer with the switch on "O"?

I've made a huge mistake and turned on another computer after putting it back together with the PSU's switch on O. What happened when I turned it on is that the PSU started sparking and smoking. Is it safe to assume that the PSU is blown and that I'd need to get a new one?

PC Turns on, Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse do not after changing CPU

The smell didn't appear anymore and everything seems to be working fine. I continue to get no signals from any of the onboard connectors to my keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I have disconnected the GPU from the new motherboard and powered it on, Boot Up LED and VGA LED still light up. The onboard...

Motherboard VGA & BootUp LED Lit Up, Peripherals no signal

I bought a new motherboard and refitted it with my older parts and tried to boot it up. First boot, something blew up and it was followed by a burnt odor alongside a red VGA LED and red Boot Up LED. This motherboard was to replace my old one, which started giving me issues after replacing...

    PC upgrade help

Normally when you upgrade for future games, its your GPU so it can handle one side, and the CPU to handle the other. RAM is optional since you already have 8gb, which is imo more than enough for now. Oh, don't forget to see if your PSU is enough to power everything up. You can basically get a...

PC Turns on, Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse do not after changing CPU

Alright, so I went and bought a new motherboard (actually a newer model but older than current of the ASUS mobos, M5A99FX Pro R2.0) which has LEDs for the CPU, DRAM, Standby, Boot Up, and VGA(GPU?). After putting everything together with that motherboard and booting up, the VGA LED lit up and...

PC Turns on, Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse do not after changing CPU

Oh haha! I did put it back in, but I still have the same issue. So I guess I have to get a new motherboard? I'll try again before I leave to get a new motherboard.

PC Turns on, Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse do not after changing CPU

I didnt replace the battery, its 3 am my time so I'd have to get one first thing when I wake up. I just did the process of taking out the battery, changing the jumper position, waiting 3-5 min, then moving the jumper position back and putting in the same battery back in.

PC Turns on, Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse do not after changing CPU

Alright so I take out the battery first, then move the jumper from the pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for ~5-10 seconds, then move it back. Then put the battery back in after 3-5 minutes?

PC Turns on, Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse do not after changing CPU

Before replacing the CPU with the new one, I did not do the battery removal and reset. Afterwards when finding out that the peripherals were not working, I did the CMOS battery removal and reset, but I did not know how long to keep the battery out. I looked in my mobo manual for the jumper and...

PC Turns on, Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse do not after changing CPU

Yeah I guess I damaged my motherboard then. I normally don't individually upgrade my components and wait until I have basically a new set to build together, so I wouldn't know how to correctly do things. I saw the CMOS clear solution and wasn't completely sure if I were to replace the battery or...
