Windows 7 won't boot after new motherboard but can get to BIOS?

If you can get it to boot either the Windows Rcovery disc (generated from a running copy of Windows 7) or get to the recovery screen from your existing HDD install, you don't need to uninstall. Follow this procedure...

Thanks for that link and suggestion to use Google. Now I don't need Tom's Hardware or its press release copying editors any more. I'm free!!! Thanks!!!!!! (Or... maybe TH's writers can learn to be more useful than other press release hacks.)

LEPA Announces Laptop Cooler With Built-in Speakers

Bluetooth speakers, or USB/3.5mm cable? Not interested in the latter. What size laptop can it handle? Not a lot of facts in this article. At least they put a big low-RPM fan in there.

    blue screen of death

Your system appears to be falling back to other boot methods because it can't see the Hard Disk Drive (HDD). Try reseating the HDD power and data cables. If that doesn't work try removing the HDD and seeing if it works in another system, or on a USB/SATA adapter.

    blue screen of death

PXE indicates it is trying to boot off of the Ethernet. Remove that boot device from the boot order in the BIOS setup.

    blue screen of death

Remove all USB devices and all optical discs (CD/DVD) and try again. This will rule out attempts to boot off of something other than the Hard Disk. If you still can't boot, if you have access to another system with the same O/S, download either Microsoft Defender Offline and let it create...

Biostar Announces New Hi-Fi Motherboards with Dual-GbE

If you or BioStar is serious about network aggregation, I'd like to see an approved switch and the switch and O/S settings that will make it work. Otherwise a more realistic expectation is for dual homing or firewall use.

Avast: 27% Windows XP Users Plan to do Absolutely Nothing

Buying 3 years worth of Avast is not a plan to do "absolutely nothing".

Could An SSD Be The Best Upgrade For Your Old PC?

A very good and timely article, but if the authors really believed what they said ( ) I doubt they would have written it. Fortunately we can see many forums full of exactly this question (with varied opinions in response.) I also would have liked to have seen the 2005 system be an AMD 64 x2, as...

    Crucial's m4 SSD Tested At 64, 128, 256, And 512 GB

radium69Dear, Andrew Ku I would like to see bootup times and (real) real world benchmarks. Kevin, does a tested boot time spread from 33.1 seconds to 33.2 seconds between the fastest and slowest SSD's really matter?

Report: Seagate Cutting Warranty Lifespan to Cut Costs

I ran a datacenter for over 4 years. I had every brand of drive. They all failed on me. Seagate was in the middle for failure rate. Maxtor (sold during this period) was at the top. At the time WD had a firmware SNAFU on RE2 drives. A little later Seagate had their firmware SNAFU. Shortening the...

Is There Still Hope Left in the Future of the PC?

Corporate IT likes desktops, because they are easier to chain to the desk and less desirable to steal. Yes, laptops have Kensington locks, but can still be stripped with a screwdriver, while a PC requires the lock tab at the back to be cut. Desktops do not lock the IT department into a cloud...
