    To start troubleshooting make sure that your USB is detected by BIOS and you are booting your computer with it. (make first bootable device usb in BIOS)

    Adding to MazBoy answer, due to latest Scepter and meltdown vulnerabilities Microsoft is pushing windows updates and as per them performance drop is much more in old hardware and OS (windows 7>Windows 8> windows 10). Another plus point to upgrade to Windows 10.

    Steam only install games. Nvidia Ge-force experience scan for all installed games and suggest you to "tweak" graphics setting for you based on you hardware.

    install OS on m2 and keep SShd for file storage or install OS on m2 and frequently use program on ssd and use sshd for data storage.

    Lenovo BIOS Update

    Intel itself mentioned not to install new bios for specter due to system stability issues. As per them they has found root cause of system crashes and are working on a new fix.
