Another question which gpu should I buy for the best value? Like is a GTX 760 worth the extra money over the GTX 660?

Right now I have an i5 2400 paired with a GTX 650. If I upgraded to a GTX 570, 660, 670, or a 760 would the performance increase be good or not because of the not so good cpu? Also note that I can't upgrade both my cpu and my gpu, only 1

I have a GTX 580 and whenever I use it it works smoothly then the fan kicks at 100% and shuts my PC off. I have also tried my GTX 650 and it works fine and will not shut my PC down. Is there any fix?
