This just happened to me also. I booted into my linux OS and the display was fine. I don't think it's a hardware issue, as it happened at EXACTLY the same time as a windows display adapter update I can see in the logs. STUPID FREAKIN' WINDOWS!!!!! At least give me the ability to roll back!
