Are you sure it is the fans and not a failing hard drive? If so, check to make sure something isn't sticking into the fan housing (wires, piece of plastic etc). If everything is clear it may be an issue with the bearings on the fan motor. When you cleaned it did you let the fans spin freely or...

Thanks for the advice everyone. I decided to go with the I5 4590k (now on sale) added an XFX XTR 80plus gold fully modular 650w psu, MSI R9 270x twin frozer 2gb and kept the Asus board (no optical audio on the gaming 5).
