    You have an 860 EVO on an AMD MOBO and there is an incompatibility between the 860 EVO and AMD. You should use the SSD with an Intel controller or SATA AHCI controller, which is the default Microsoft controller.

    Yes, if you are using an adapter the speed may be much lower than advertised. That is why it is not advisable to use an NVMe in an expansion slot... you can but you pay the price ;)

    Your computer supports both SATA and PCIe on the same port, make sure to adjust BIOS settings to use PCIe devices. Also update your BIOS to the latest version.

    Expansion slots are not meant to be used for the NVMe PCIe, therefore you should have a STORAGE PCIe NVMe port. If not, you can't do anything to improve the performances.

    Why are you using an NVMe with an adapter? You know using an adapter for an NVMe drive might not work. These SSDs are meant to be connected directly into the MOBO. I do believe that you do have one port. Just plug it in there!!

    Of course, it is faster!!! NVMe is always faster.
