Question When to replace thermal pads?

Lutfij: The card is an ASUS 3070 twin fan unit. I am replacing the heatsink with an ASUS 3060 aero single fan heatsink. I am doing it for packaging purposes. Everything lines up between the two circuit boards and I will end up with an ITX sized RTX 3070. Larry

Question When to replace thermal pads?

I am replacing the heatsink on an RTX 3070. Should I replace all thermal pads, or should I only replace those which are damaged? Please advise, and TIA, Larry

    Question I9-9900t: RTX 3050 or RTX 3060

Hi All, Use case; general office, gaming, rendering, CAD in order of use. I have an Elitedesk 800 mini with the I-9900t installed. I also have, on hand, an RTX 3050 and an RTX 3060. Which of the two GPUs will better pair with the I-9900t (and why)? Please note that the GPU will be...

Question Is moving from an i7-9700 to an i9-9900k worth the effort?

Gentlemen, Please note that I already HAVE most all parts required (SUNK COST!). Also note that HP puts a 125 watt capacity heatsink into that tiny case. Not previously detailed is that a 140mm fan fits perfectly on the unit and I will add that to maximize ventilation across that heatsink. Larry

Question Can I boot from one drive and perform an in-place upgrade on a different drive?

To quote Dr. Frankenstein: "ITS ALIVE!!!" After downloading the latest ISO, mounting, and running a "repair installation" AKA "In-Place Upgrade" the 4TB nvme drive is back in operation, with all settings and applications intact! It has been cloned for point-in-time backup and I am proceeding...

Question Is moving from an i7-9700 to an i9-9900k worth the effort?

Gentlemen, Thank you for your thoughts. To your questions: the gory detail. I am a long retired engineer. I was forced by disability into retirement and miss it, which does make me an "inveterate tinkerer" <sigh> The boxes involved are HP EliteDesk 800 Mini's. I currently have three of...

Question Is moving from an i7-9700 to an i9-9900k worth the effort?

I am limited to 9th generation cpu's. My current processor is an i5-9500T and on-board graphics. My use case is primarily transcoding and rendering...needless to say I am short on processing power, and gaming other than in the browser is simply impossible. Next week I will receiving a box...

Question Can I boot from one drive and perform an in-place upgrade on a different drive?

We shall see....I really do not see any downside from making the attempt. I do appreciate your time and analysis! Larry

Question Can I boot from one drive and perform an in-place upgrade on a different drive?

Well it seems I am having (Probably age related) difficulties communicating today. The process IIRC that I used the last time I did this mislabelled "upgrade" is to download an ISO of Win11. Mount the ISO (I can skip the download part since I have a Win11 Installation Flash Drive available...

Question Can I boot from one drive and perform an in-place upgrade on a different drive?

I was originally creating a clone of my system drive. "In-place upgrade" is one of those odd Microsoft terms. It basically overwrites the OS, while retaining all settings and programs. Sort of like the old WIN97 -> XP days. Yeah, it seems unlikely, even to me, that this will work and I...

Question Can I boot from one drive and perform an in-place upgrade on a different drive?

From Windows 11 Pro TO Windows 11 Pro, which permits me to keep all settings and programs. The drive in question is a 4TB m.2 nvme. The drive is detected when trying to boot from it, blue screens and gives error "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". I successfully boots into bios. Corruption occurred...

Question Can I boot from one drive and perform an in-place upgrade on a different drive?

My boot drive is corrupted. Ironically WHILE I was preparing to set up my backup process. So, I need to boot from a USB drive and then run an in-place upgrade on my original boot drive. Will I have a problem in doing so? TIA, Larry

Question What is the best "set and forget" backup software and set-up for Windows 11 ?

As someone said here, probably you, the best backup regime is the one which is USED! And I really want the added security of a backup, although is a single point backup, which requires no additional processing to deploy! Larry

Question What is the best "set and forget" backup software and set-up for Windows 11 ?

I completely concur and am now awaiting the receipt of new HDDs to replace my current elderly ones. Since using the imaging process for backup is new to me (I will be following your example), I will be most comfortable producing a clone once a week in addition to my images. Larry
