Question Built-in monitor KVM vs external KVM for 4K 240Hz?

I am looking into buying a 4k QD-OLED monitor this fall (hoping on some Black Friday deals, but prices only seem to be going up due to scarcity), and am trying to figure out how I can make a work-from-home set up with two Windows devices and two monitors (the potential new QD-OLED one and my old...

    Question I have GeForce RTX™ 3080 GamingPro 12GB, should I upgrade it to 3080ti or 3090?

Yeah it works well. Guess what? Your 3080 will also "work well" for at least 3-5 years, or until you want to play in higher resolution (new monitor) or some really VRAM-intensive games are released (10GB will be ok for 1080p for a while, but if you move to 4K I think it might start struggling in...

Question Alienware 15 R3 battery and throttling issues

I've ran my HP Probook workhorse with cheap batteries since the original kicked the can around 2016. Yeah I've had one that would shut the system down when playing a game, and they're not stellar in terms of capacity and longevity... but they're like $10-20. I have went through 3 so far since...

    Question I have GeForce RTX™ 3080 GamingPro 12GB, should I upgrade it to 3080ti or 3090?

I'd assume the mod is correct and you might want to get a good PSU. If you want to run high tier CPUs and GPUs you might be safest with 800-1000W - that way you dont' have to worry. CPUs can easily use up to 250W nowadays, and Nvidia GPUs can easily spike up to 400W.... By your questions I...

Question Alienware 15 R3 battery and throttling issues

I take it there's no way to circumvent this? I've been told unsintalling Alienware Support Assistant will remove that annoying message at bootup, but I assume it won't fix the battery not being identified problem...? Just need to buy a genuine battery? Seems a bit silly that such an expensive...

Question Is my PC to old to be upgraded?

Most power supplies can easily last 10+ years, unless you buy off-brands and stress them to 100% load like all the time. If you're a gamer and use your PC heavily 2-3 hours a day, a 3 year old PSU is fine. In fact some people just buy a 800-1000W PSU and then just forget about buying PSUs for a...

Question Alienware 15 R3 battery and throttling issues

Hello, I am trying to fix up Dell Alienware 15 R3 for a friend. He complained about his battery being completely dead so that his laptop needs to be constantly plugged in and that his fans were broken and won’t turn on, leading to the laptop overheating sometimes and switching off. I bought a...

[SOLVED] SSD Raid on a HDD-only RAID chipset - can not use TRIM?

Hey guys, I recently got a GA-P55-UD for my backup PC and since I was rebuilding it and had two 120 GB SATA SSDs lying around, I decided to to run them in Raid 0, because 1) 120 GB is not a lot by itelf nowadays 2) questionable performance gains 3) they're not worth much. It was only...

Question R9 290 black screens only when there is no load (e.g. in Windows)

Hi guys, for the last couple of months I have been black screens when using my Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC. It is a very peculiar issue, because it only happens when I am outside of a game e.g. with an open browser (with hardware acceleration turned off), or other 2D applications, I believe it has...

[SOLVED] Seasonic SS-620GB vs Coolermaster Masterwatt 700W

Would the wattage be enough for the components? It's in Bulgaria. I'm not worried about warranty. I said they have warranty to outline that they are still kind of new.

[SOLVED] Seasonic SS-620GB vs Coolermaster Masterwatt 700W

Hey guys, I am looking for a cheap way to power my retro rig (Phenom II x4 (120W?) and R9 290 (275W?)). The CPU and mobo are more than 10 years old, so I'm not too worried about power failure and all the things people warn when cheap PSUs are mentioned. I found a local seller that sells second...

[SOLVED] Trouble cooling a 60W Xeon

Thanks, this was helpful. I thought the low TDP and clock speeds can come to an advantage with thermals, I guess I was wrong.

[SOLVED] Trouble cooling a 60W Xeon

I think I tightened and installed it correctly - the ambient temps were fine (40-45C in a 30C room), but sadly I don't think the BIOS limit can be increased. He's planning on buying a new case, so I'll make sure the one he buys has at least 2-3 fans.
