I managed to sort it out. Booted up the laptop without a hard drive, accessed BIOS settings, and then changed the boot order and disk controller. Can't say I know which one of those actions solved it or why, but at this point I couldn't care less. Everything is now functioning as it should.

A laptop a relative of mine owns suddenly shut off and now gets stuck in a boot loop when you attempt to turn it back on, persisting until one completely cuts off the power. Upon booting you're shown the BIOS screen, but I am unable to boot into any diagnostic tools as it shuts off too quickly...
