    Thin LVM Metadata Size

I am answering to my question to document the knowledge in public. You can use lvs -a to view details of metadata and pmspare To extend metadata lvextend -L+128M volgroup1/lv1_tmeta You will see lvol0_pmspare (metadata spare) remains original size even after above command is successful...

    Thin LVM Metadata Size

I am very new to Thin LVM. Learned there are lot of chances for metadata corruption issue if exhaust the metadata space in Thin LVM. My logical volume looks as below: [root@srv ~]# lvs LV VG Attr LSize Pool Origin Data% Meta% Move Log Cpy%Sync Convert lv1 volgroup1...

‘Write cache’ performance impact on SSD.

I am wondering do any one have a real benchmark on SSD with 'write cache' enabled and disabled. Are there any SSD with NO internal buffer/cache mechanism (write cache enabled / disabled will not make any impact). Do the write cache enabling impact the write / overall performance of system heavily ?

Onboard RAID controller vs RAID Adapter

Thank you for the prompt responses and suggestions. In case of HW RAID Controller Card should we choose a card with on-card cache w/ battery back-up ? Or a normal LSI card w/o cache. I came across "LSI MegaRAID SATA/SAS 9260-4i 6Gb/s PCI-Express 2.0 w/ 512MB onboard memory", it have a DDR II...

Recommend a HW RAID controller for Supermicro mobo X11SSH-F

I am currently using Supermicro X11SSH-F with Intel E3-1230 v5 processor (1U Chassis). Currently I have OS based RAID 1 (2 x SSDs). I am planning to run virtualization on this server (Host OS CentOS 7) and may move to RAID 10 (No plan for RAID 5/6). Please recommend a cheap HW RAID controller...

Can I use desktop SSD on Server in RAID ?

Thanks for all the prompt responses and suggestions, They are indeed very helpful. As suggested I think the main advantage of enterprise SSD will be full power loss protection along with encryption possibilities. Surprisingly I cannot see much difference in Endurance. Considering 500GB SSD for...

Can I use desktop SSD on Server in RAID ?

I am wondering can we use a normal note/desktop SSD on a server in RAID 1. Samsung 850 Pro Crucial MX200 Transcend SSD370 SanDisk Extreme Pro I understand consumer level ssd's could be less reliable on heavy duty professional use. But what is you suggestion using similar SSD's on light load...

Recommend me OS based or Onboard RAID.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. As suggested in case of on-board RAID malfunction, it may be difficult to get same motherboard replacement, as most of the manufacturers discontinue the motherboard after a year or two. I think the OS RAID 1 will be best for me considering the...

Recommend me OS based or Onboard RAID.

I am planning to setup a server with Supermicro X11SSL-F with 2 SSD (Intel S3510) on RAID 1. My objective is to create VM (KVM based) out of the node (node OS: CentOS 6.7 preferred). The motherboard support RAID 0, 1 and 10 via C232 controller. OS Compatibility Chart...
