hi, i have bought a second hand dell e6440 laptop. I did some tests and everything seemed fine. So i decided to test the cpu using aida64, and before starting the stress test temps were about 70-80'c. Just a minute after i ran it the cpu jumped to 95'c and it showed overheating detected 10-25%...

Thats normal for all lenovo laptops. If you run the laptop without the battery you will need a 90w power adapter.

Before thermal paste change I was seeing temps over 85c idle now - 50-60c idle. I applied enough thermal paste and i tightened the screws pretty well. I think the cause could be the heatsink or the cpu overvolting somehow.

i have a thinkpad x61s and fans are quite rare. There is no visible oil anywhere, but when the laptop heats up i have to open my room windows because the smell is awful. The oil was spilled inside the chassis not on the fan.

There could be couple causes. usb is formatted as gpt and your motherboard doesn"t support uefi bios. usb is formatted as fat32, not all motherboards could boot from fat32 usb flash drive. windows installer is missing some files Try to make new usb installer using rufus and try set gpt to mbr

not all motherboards accept core 2 quads. modified x5460 to fit lga 775 is the same as core 2 quad but maybe a bit faster.
