Question Samsung 980 M.2 running at half speeds on the MSI B45 Tomahawk Max

Update: I tried out the M.2 drive in in a friend's system and it recognises as PCIe 3.0 x 4 and works as it's rated speeds. So now I'm convinced that it has something to do with my Mobo or CPU. Any ideas or possible theories as to why the drive is only working at PCIe 3.0x2 ony setup? Any help...

Question Samsung 980 M.2 running at half speeds on the MSI B45 Tomahawk Max

I live in India and from what I've gathered MSI India isn't the most co-operative. I will have to see how to contact them.

Question Samsung 980 M.2 running at half speeds on the MSI B45 Tomahawk Max

Yes, I'm absolutely sure about it. I'm not the best but I'm quite sound when it comes to computer hardware which is why I'm so confused in this matter. I have the Ryzen 1600.

Question Samsung 980 M.2 running at half speeds on the MSI B45 Tomahawk Max

The funny thing is that I'm using an RX 550 2GB that runs PCIe x8 and not 16. It is recognised at x8 and runs at x8 in Windows as well. Also, doesn't the Ryzen 1600 have 20 lanes?

[SOLVED] MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX - M2 SSD Problem - Half Speed

Hi, I'm using the same motherboard and purchased the Samsung 980 m.2 drive. To my horror it is currently running at Pcie 3x2 instead of 3x4. I saw that you had the same issue but fixed it. I read your solution but wasn't able to understand what to do to make it run at 3x4 speeds. Any help will...

Good AMD CPU for GTX 1080?

The i7 7700K with a good overclock would do the job perfectly. If you are only looking towards AMD then I'd grab the 1700 just to be sure although the gaming performance might not be much different from that of the 1600 as already mentioned by Ecky.

    Ryzen 1700x or 7700k for 4k gaming.

Personally I'd throw in a slightly higher wattage PSU, just in case you consider SLI in the future. 4K gaming is only going to get more demanding in the future and can already humble a 1080ti.

    AMD Ryzen 7 1700 only @ 3.900 GHz

Well, I've tested several Ryzen chips and saw that those made in China seem to be luckier than those made in Malaysia. The best you'll get out of these chips are 4Ghz or 4.05Ghz and that's under custom liquid cooling with a hell of a lot of rads to keep it cool during the summer months. The good...

    AMD Ryzen 7 1700 w/wraith cooler

The difference is mainly felt as more heats needs to be dissipated by the cooler. More the amount of wattage to cool, more the distance between the wraith cooler and hyper 212. However, I must say, the wraith cooler is pretty good for a stock cooler.
