Question TPM Module for my New MoBo Not Available - Do I Really Need It?

Hey boju, Thanks for the fast reply! So would I have to do anything at all on/with the new MoBo - or maybe in the BIOS at least?

Question TPM Module for my New MoBo Not Available - Do I Really Need It?

Good day or night, I’ve been reading a few articles here about the 'TPM 2.0 Encryption Security Module' for Windows 11. And as I inch closer to finishing my research on all parts and components for my upcoming new build in a 3-4 weeks, I see the MoBo that I plan to purchase has this 12-pin TPM...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Hey, good timing CountMike, I have just been looking - ok, more like 'scouring' - all things 'X870' and 'X870E' Series Chipset Boards. I had previously been looking at the B650 and B850 series as well, but as I've learned more and now understand about lanes, and lane sharing (and how using...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Yup, CountMike. Exactly what I've discovered in my research and extensive reading for most of last night and afternoon. Some boards 'may look like' they have 2, 3, or 4 PCIe x 16 slots, but might only have PCIe x 1 configuration - especially in the lower ones near the bottom of the board...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Hey, thanks for all that info. So, at least some of it is tweak-able in the BIOS, then. My simple PCIex1 card would take up (use) very little resources and the simpler type graphics card I would go for, shouldn't hog to much resources either.

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

And now, after some more research, I'm thinking M.2 NVMe SSDs in PCIex16 slots would do me a whole world of good, verses SATA SSD's using cables. I see most boards offer 1, 2, or 3 M.2 SATA Slots (flat, face down), as well. No SATA Cables to deal would be nice, and also provide a more secure...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Yes, I noticed that too. I did see some boards that still have 2 PCIex1 slots, (which actually kind of surprised me). My understanding is that the PCIex16 slots would accommodate PCIex1 cards, no? (I could be wrong on that.) That said, I would need t make sure I don't use up the 16s if I need...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Ok, good to know about the 8000. Didn't know. I had a look at that very Gigabyte board just yesterday. I liked it. So, the 9000 series seems like the best way to go, if Ii can afford it. I will look into those models, but I have to determine if my workload is indeed single core related or not...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Thanks also to CountMike - for the additional info. I just recently read about and learned more on VRMs. I have been looking very closely at my Ins and Outs requirements, ie: USB, and PCIe slots. M.2s are a new thrill for me to learn about. Up until now, I have been using 2.5" SSDs...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Hello Q, and thanks for the questions. I hadn't actually decided on which CPU just yet as I'm still researching them. But the 7000 series seems ok, from what I can see so far - maybe 8000 series. 9000 would be icing on the cake. As for expansiveness, 2, or at most 3 M.2 SSDs would be plenty...

    Question It’s time for a new build - - - motherboard suggestions ?

Good day or night- wherever you may be! (Apologies in advance for the long post) It’s time for a new build! (Face gives a wide smile and a noticeable squeal :); wallet gives an unmistakable frown and a loud sigh! :disrelieved:) I just upgraded my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) from...

Question Would MoBo, CPU, & Memory Upgrades Require Reinstalling of the Operating System?

Yes, I do believe this to be correct. Sadly, I'm coming to this realization.

Question Would MoBo, CPU, & Memory Upgrades Require Reinstalling of the Operating System?

Hey QyInvoLing, Right - I forgot about the activation/license code issues. My Windows 7 Version was only good for one build, which of course, I've used up already with this current build. As for your first question, I'm not sure which CPU I'd go for yet, so not sure there, as of yet. But...

Question Would MoBo, CPU, & Memory Upgrades Require Reinstalling of the Operating System?

But what I fail to understand is why. How is the OS tied to the MoBo? What is it that makes it so I can't just run the OS from any Drive, (SSD or HDD). which is on a separate piece of hardware, whereby it's already working? Is it something that the MoBo needs to register in order to identify...
