Sadly most laptops can't be upgraded. PCI express ports are availible for destktop PC's.

Exactly as you say. The working sound deppends of the Graphic Card, i have a Gigabyte oc gtx 460 that supports it. My old 8800 GT didn't support it unless i use a HDMI - HDMI Cable with (S/PDIF) on the card. Most adapters/cables are including audio. Check the link and read on feautres.

You can add a SSD Sata III to speed up the OS and have better loading times.
