Well after a lot of faffing around online, it's looking like this machine won't take 3200mhz ram. I thought I might be able to enable xmp in the bios but can't find anything in there for the ram. Seems without xmp, only 2666mhz works with i9 7900x series.

I have an i9 hp g4 z4 and I'm trying to install 4x16gb ram. I bought these: DDR4-3200 • CL=22 • NON-ECC • UDIMM • 288-pin • 1.2V • 2Rx8 • PC4-25600. I have 8 ram slots. I tried putting them in alternate slots, black ones, from the front but doesn't work. Tried all four in first four, doesn't...

So I discovered after watching youtube videos on these machines that it turns out all of these do have the psu label under the top cover, where you can't see it! :)

There is one sticker on the unit with just one number starting with ct. That's it.But I looked at some images of hp psu and a lot of them seem to have the label on the top which is under the top cover so can't be seen from the side.

Thanks. I bought the machine from a company that refurbs. They have a main site with pretty good rep and ebay with fairly good rep. I was told the psu was 1000 w. Once I got the machine, first thing I did was check everything and found no label on the psu. Called them up and asked why. Still...

Is there any way to tell the wattage of the psu if there's no label? I read that cpu-z can tell you this, but after installing it could not find anything that detected it.

I'm considering upgrading the power supply anyway. Probably be better off in the long run

Judging by the motherboard images on that link, the pc looks like a G1. Says power is 320w. I wrote 300 by accident in the first post. I only intend to upgrade card to about 6gb, but this should be enough for what I want in terms of rendering which I know can be heavy. Never going to get a 12gb...

Reason I say that about the ram, is because I looked for cards that just ran off the pcie slot and most are 4gb, although I think a few were 6. I've not found any with more ram than that without needing power other than from the slot. If anyone knows of any I'd appreciate knowing. I need a card...
